SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A Santa Fe police bomb squad is investigating a possible explosive device found in a car on a street in the downtown area.

City spokesman Matt Ross says the possible device was found by police officers Thursday morning as they detained and interviewed people involved in a fight.

Ross says initial information is that people involved in the fight are connected to the vehicle but that no specifics are immediately available on the possible device.

He says the bomb squad will render it safe if it is an explosive device.

The scene is on the 300 block of Read Street and city officials are advising residents and visitors to avoid the area during the investigation.
