WEST BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a fire at an upstate New York home has left a woman dead.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the town of West Bloomfield home around 10:40 p.m. Thursday for a report of a house on fire with the possibility of people trapped inside.

Authorities say one resident was able to escape the fire but couldn’t retrieve his relative. Firefighters found her on the second floor of the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities didn’t immediately identify her.

Investigators say the fire apparently started in the kitchen area and spread throughout the rest of the house. The exact cause is undetermined.
