SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Two California Highway Officers shot a man they said had pointed a gun at them in north Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2foYibD) the man later died at a hospital following Friday afternoon’s confrontation near a CHP office.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Turnbull said a highway patrol officer saw a man walking along a road with a gun in his hand. When the officer approached him, the man put the gun in his waistband.

Turnbull said another CHP officer arrived at the scene and together they ordered him to get on the ground. Turnbull said the man pulled the weapon out of his waistband, turned around and pointed it at one of the officers.

He said both officers fired at the man and struck him.
