PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The University of Maine School of Law and the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service are going to offer a combined law degree and master’s degree in public health.

Officials say the dual degree in law and public health will provide invaluable knowledge and skills for students interested in the intersection of law and public health policy.

Dean Danielle Conway of the University of Maine School of Law says the range of issues tackled in the program will include regulations, protecting patient privacy and ensuring access to life-saving drugs. The accelerated program allows students to receive the degree in four years instead of five.
