NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD says a suspect is under arrest in connection with the brutal beating and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in the Bronx.

Police say Shaun Lewis was taken into custody on Friday.

He is accused of attacking the girl early Monday morning.

Police say the suspect struck up a conversation with her as she was leaving the Gun Hill Road subway station.

Police say they walked together for several blocks before he allegedly physically attacked the girl in a park.

Police say he then sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

The victim suffered severe injuries to the head and is listed in stable condition.

Police charged Lewis with attempted rape, assault, strangulation and other charges.

It’s not clear if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
