DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Wendy Doolan shot a 3-under 69 in windy conditions Saturday to take the first-round lead in The Legends Tour’s Walgreens Charity Championship.
The 47-year-old Australian won three LPGA Tour titles. She’s now a teaching professional in Lakeland.
“I like the challenge of the wind and it actually keeps it interesting,” Doolan said. “I think it’s boring to play golf with no wind. I like to be creative and the wind allows me to do that.”
Lisa Grimes was second at 70, and Hall of Famer Juli Inkster shot a 71 at Seagate Country Club.
“I played well and hit 17 greens in regulation, but I didn’t make any putts,” the 56-year-old Inkster said. “You have to hit a lot of three-quarter shots in the wind, but you still have to go ahead and swing at it. It wasn’t easy out there.”
