SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a 33-year-old hiker has been rescued after being trapped underneath a boulder for several hours in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2dxnDyJ ) that Unified police Lt. Brian Lohrke says the man suffered internal injuries and injuries to his lower body in the Sunday incident.

Rescuers had responded to the scene near Red Pine Lake after other hikers were unable to move the large rock and called emergency dispatchers.

Lohrke says the man had been conscious and alert while he waited for rescue crews to arrive.

He was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.
