PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - Police say a woman reported that she was raped by a stranger on the Stanford University campus.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2dprz2P ) Monday that the woman told police she was raped in an undisclosed student residence on the east side of campus early Friday morning.

Police did not release further details about the reported attack or say more about a possible suspect in the case.

News of the reported rape comes amid scrutiny over the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses nationwide. It also follows the high-profile sexual attack of a woman by former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner on the campus last year.

The 21-year-old Turner was convicted of sexual assault, served half his six-month sentence and moved back to his home state of Ohio, where he registered as a sex offender.
