BRANFORD, Conn. (AP) - Shore Line East commuter trains will soon be pulling up to a new platform at the Branford railroad station.

Trains will start using the new platform, located on the northbound side of the station, on Saturday. It is part of an upgrade that includes an up-and-over pedestrian walkway with elevators and stairs, so commuters can move from one side of the tracks to the other.

The project also includes a new “train approach messaging system” to alert people on the platform of when a train is approaching.

Other improvements include a bicycle parking area and a new canopy to shelter commuters from the elements.

Besides Branford, there are Shoreline East stations at State Street in New Haven and in Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, Old Saybrook and New London.
