WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Wilmington teenager has been arrested after police say he brought a loaded handgun to school.

Delaware State Police tell local media that officials at John Dickinson High School were informed Friday morning that a 16-year-old student was in possession of a handgun.

The School Resource Officer found the student in the gym, and arrested him after finding the loaded weapon in his backpack.

The student was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited juvenile, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a weapon in a Safe School Zone. He was arraigned with a parent present before the New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in default of $18,000 cash bond.
