CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have evacuated more than 30 homes in a suburban Denver neighborhood after police discovered chemicals inside a house.

Castle Rock spokeswoman Karen Carter said Monday the evacuations were a safety precaution while authorities await equipment that can test the chemicals. She would not say what kind of chemicals investigators believe they found.

An officer discovered the box of chemicals Monday morning at the home of one of two juveniles who had been arrested for an unrelated reason the night before. Carter says the officer was notifying the youth’s parents of the arrest when he spotted the items and requested a hazardous materials team.

Police say the juveniles were arrested Sunday after neighbors reported suspicious behavior. Both remain in custody. But police provided no other information about them because they are younger than 18.
