PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The official vessel of the state of Maine will make an appearance in Portland as the state’s largest city hosts an international meeting about Arctic diplomacy.

The Arctic schooner Bowdoin will sail into Portland Harbor on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The schooner’s arrival coincides with the Arctic Council’s Senior Arctic Officials meetings, which will take place in the city from Tuesday to Thursday. Officials from the council’s eight member nations are in Portland for the meeting.

The Bowdoin is also the flagship of Maine Maritime Academy’s Vessel Operations and Technology Program. The vessel was built in East Boothbay in 1921 and is the only American schooner built specifically for Arctic exploration.

Public tours of the vessel will be available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
