TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - A Ranchos Palos Verdes man will spend six years in prison for driving under the influence of heroin and killing two nursing students in Torrance in a crash.

The Daily Breeze reports (https://bit.ly/2cPIYnv ) that 29-year-old David Pedersen pleaded no contest to two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He will surrender to begin his prison term when he is formally sentenced Jan. 23.

Pedersen was driving under the influence when his vehicle drifted into a collision that killed 20-year-old Vanessa Carrisoza-Diaz and 19-year-old Joseph Labori-Romero on Jan. 6, 2015.

Family members of the victims expressed frustrations with the plea agreement, which they say let’s Pedersen off too easily for killing two people.
