NEW CASTLE, Ky. (AP) - State officials say the new boat ramp at Benjy Kinman Lake in Henry County will be closed while repairs are made to the dam.

A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources news release said the lake is being lowered while repairs continue.

Assistant Director of Fisheries Jeff Ross believes the repairs will be finished by winter. He says the current lake level makes launching boats at the ramp dangerous and that it’s expected the water level will drop another 2 feet.

Crews are working to lower and maintain the lake level to install a new water control structure and seal off the old one, which was leaking and spurring erosion in the dam.

The lake is still open for bank fishing and paddle craft that don’t require a ramp to launch, such as canoes or kayaks.
