A machete-wielding man was shot and killed by police Wednesday morning on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder, the Boulder Daily Camera reported.

The incident occurred at the Champions Center which houses the university’s athletic department offices as well as the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center.

The student newspaper cited an unnamed source who disclosed that the man appeared to be a “religious zealot” who had defaced vehicles in a nearby parking lot before entering the Champions Center had ranted about how he was “looking for sinners.”

“We just know that he was directed to put the weapon down and refused, and it was at that time, for public safety, that we believe the shots were fired,” Scott Pribble, a spokesman for the Colorado University police department said, the Daily Camera reported.

No civilians or police officers were injured in the incident, the Daily Camera reported, citing authorities.
