MIDVALE, Utah (AP) - A stretch of Interstate 15 closed after a semi-trailer carrying an explosive chemical overturned has been reopened ahead of rush hour.

Officials say both southbound and northbound lanes of I-15 in Midvale were reopened Wednesday afternoon as hazmat crews towed away the semi-trailer carrying the ammonium nitrate.

The multivehicle morning crash caused long delays on the highway, a major artery for the Salt Lake City metro area.

No one was hurt in the crash and the chemical didn’t leak, but the area was nevertheless evacuated because of the possible danger.

Ammonium nitrate is used in fertilizers and explosives.
