LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - A former New Jersey police officer who was seriously injured in a crash on Staten Island and the family of one of the men who was killed have sued two bars the men visited.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2dyghKa ) lawyers for 25-year-old Patrik Kudlac and the family of Joseph Rodriguez have filed complaints against both bars. They claim they recklessly over-served Pedro Abad. Authorities say Abad visited Roselle bar Central Park and Curves before the crash.

Former Linden Officer Pedro Abad was driving the vehicle that hit a tractor-trailer head on. Authorities say he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.24 percent. Rodriguez and another person were killed in the crash.

Abad has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and manslaughter.

Curves didn’t return a call. A manager at Central Park wouldn’t comment.
