ELKTON, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a motorcyclist was killed when he struck a dump truck on East Old Philadelphia Road in Elkton.

The agency said in a news release that on Thursday morning, 24-year-old John Anthony Ferrara of Elkton was driving his motorcycle west on East Old Philadelphia Road. Troopers say Ferrara was speeding and passing vehicles on the left.

Authorities say Ferrara’s motorcycle hit the driver’s side of a Mack roll off truck that was turning left into the Cecil County Landfill.

Police say Ferrara was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck, 47-year-old John Lee Quirk Jr. of Newark, Delaware, was not hurt.
