SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities have identified the body of a man found wrapped in plastic tarp in a Salt Lake County canyon.

Unified police say they responded to Butterfield Canyon in Herriman after hikers spotted the body Wednesday. The medical examiner’s office determined Thursday that the human remains were those of 26-year-old Alejandro Reyes.

The body was found about 20 feet off the road in a ditch.

It is unclear how long the body had been there before it was discovered in the canyon.

A cause of death has not yet been determined, but police say the death is considered suspicious.
