AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Police in Auburn are searching for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian and then left the scene.

Police Capt. Lorenza Dorsey tells the Opelika-Auburn News (https://bit.ly/2dJWAAq ) that emergency responders got a call shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday about a crash involving a pedestrian.

Police found a 28-year-old man lying along the road with injuries that were consistent with having been hit by a vehicle. Dorsey said the man was taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward. They are also asking people to look out for vehicle with front-end damage, primarily on the passenger side.
