MANCHESTER, Maine (AP) - Authorities say they’re investigating the death of a Hallowell man who slipped and fell into a Manchester lake.

The body of 84-year-old Richard Barrett was found Thursday morning in Cobbossee Lake.

Authorities say Barrett had gone to his sister’s home to help her with yard work. Officials say they suspect Barrett was trimming branches when he ended up in the water. He was declared dead at the scene.

Kennebec County Sheriff Ryan Reardon says authorities don’t yet know if Barrett died from drowning or something else.

Officials say there are no signs of injury or foul play.

An autopsy is planned.
