WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) - Wahpeton’s school board has publicly thanked a bus driver for his decision-making in an incident in which a bus caught fire.

Brett Lambrecht noticed problems with the bus while transporting ninth-grade football players to a game in Moorhead, Minnesota, on Sept. 1. When they arrived, he had players take everything off the bus and then parked it in an isolated spot.

The empty bus later caught fire and was destroyed.

The Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2dPBQEt ) that the school board on Wednesday publicly recognized Lambrecht and approved spending up to $45,000 to buy a replacement bus.

Lambrecht is the emergency manager for Richland County and also a Wahpeton City Councilman.
