SCOTT, La. (AP) - An elementary school in Lafayette Parish that sustained heavy flood damage may not reopen until 2018.

The Advertiser (https://bit.ly/2dQ3wZk ) reports that school officials announced Wednesday that Westside Elementary would be closed for about a year for repairs.

Students and teachers at Westside have been using facilities at Scott Middle School and N.P. Moss Preparatory while awaiting repairs. District officials have also proposed establishing portable classrooms, a cafeteria and other amenities on the Scott Middle campus for the foreseeable future.

The Lafayette Parish School Board will send surveys to parents to see if they would prefer to remain at their current sites or move to the temporary Scott Middle School campus.

Westside Principal Lisa Thomas says some teachers have expressed concern about moving again this year.
