SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - As concerns are growing about a Salt Lake County official’s mental capacity, residents say they plan to call for an investigation of his chief deputy for malfeasance.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2dUWHXH ) that County Recorder Gary Ott appeared before the county council Tuesday and struggled to answer basic questions about his office, his address and the name of his chief deputy, Julie Dole, who was sitting next to him.

County employees have voiced concerns that Ott is being manipulated, and Dole has been accused of taking advantage of him to stay in her appointed position.

Residents Shon Harris and Jeremy Roberts say Dole has been dishonest about Ott’s welfare, and they’re working with attorneys to have the chief deputy investigated for malfeasance.

Dole didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment Wednesday.
