COVINGTON, La. (AP) - State police say a motorist traveling the wrong way on Interstate 12 in Covington has died in a head-on crash.

Trooper Dustin Dwight said in a news release the accident involving an 18-wheeler and car happened at 1 a.m. Friday.

Dwight says 55-year-old Perry Nunez of Meraux (MEE’-roh) was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when his car struck the 18-wheeler.

He says the truck driver was not injured, but a passenger sustained minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

Dwight says impairment is suspected as the possible cause of the accident. Toxicology tests are pending.
