Fresh on the heels of Apple eliminating the 3.5mm earphone jack from its latest iPhone, Apple is asking MacBook Pro users in a survey how much they use the earphone jack on the high-end laptops.

MacRumors.com reported the story on Wednesday, showing a screen capture from one such survey. “Do you ever use the headphone port on your MacBook Pro with Retina display?” it asks users, giving respondents the choices, “yes,” “no” and “not sure.”

Apple has long put an emphasis on sleekness of design and eliminating unneeded hardware. In 1998, with the introduction of the iMac, Apple eliminated floppy drives from its desktop computer line. And four years ago, the Cupertino, California-based company eliminated optical drives — CD/DVD players — from its computers.

“Based on a leaked MacBook Pro shell, the upcoming MacBook Pro will include four USB-C ports and a headphone jack, with Apple doing away with all other ports on the machine,” noted MacRumors. “If the shell is an actual part, the machine will not include an SD card slot, HDMI port, USB-A port, or a MagSafe connection.”
