JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Johnson City officials have voted in favor of a move to rezone a property in Gray for a local addiction treatment clinic.
The Johnson City Press reports (https://bit.ly/2cPmgMB) that in a 4-1 vote, the city commission approved a second reading of a zoning request just after midnight Friday following an hours-long debate about the proposed facility.
If fully approved, the methadone clinic would be jointly operated by Mountain States Health Alliance and East Tennessee State University.
Vice Mayor David Tomita opposed the move, citing the Gray Commons Professional Park location and arguing that better choices were overlooked.
Gray resident Danny Sells has filed an appeal with the state to overturn the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency’s decision last month to grant a certificate of need for the clinic.
