WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. lottery is celebrating some recent winners.

Five people will get ceremonial checks on Friday from the lottery’s “Big Payoff” game - a second-chance promotion where players could use losing tickets to enter a sweepstakes.

The lottery calls it the largest cash giveaway in its history, with $1.4 million in prizes.

The biggest winner was 33-year-old Keyarna Jenifer of southeast Washington, a mother of four who works in pest control and pocketed $500,000.
