NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A federal judge has ruled that parts of a lawsuit filed by commuters and taxi drivers over the George Washington Bridge lane closures can continue.

NorthJersey.com reports (https://bit.ly/2cMjG96) that U.S. District Judge Jose Linares ruled Thursday that the suit can continue on five counts related to constitutional rights and civil conspiracy. He dismissed five counts including racketeering and consumer fraud.

The traffic jams caused massive gridlock in Fort Lee in September 2013, allegedly as retaliation against Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing Christie for re-election.

Former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey deputy executive director Bill Baroni and former Christie aide Bridget Kelly face separate criminal charges in federal court. Their trial begins Monday.

Former Christie ally David Wildstein, who has pleaded guilty in the criminal case, is also named as a defendant.
