17-year-old boy dies from gunshot in Juneau

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A 17-year-old boy has died after a shotgun he was holding accidentally discharged in his chest Saturday morning in Juneau.

Police said in a statement that two men and two teenage boys were preparing to go duck hunting when the 17-year-old tried to pull his shotgun out of the back seat of a truck by the barrel. The shotgun discharged and he was shot in the torso.

The 26-year-old, 22-year-old and 16-year-old were outside of the truck when the accidental shooting occurred. They immediately called 911 and tried to render first aid.

Emergency responders took the 17-year-old to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not release the name of the victim due to his age but said he was a senior at the Thunder Mountain High School.

Police are investigating.
