AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Maine Farm Bureau is planning a parade against hunger in the state’s capital city.
The farm bureau has been asking members to contribute fresh produce over the summer.
Members will load fresh fruits and vegetables onto trucks and trailers on Saturday before participating in a convoy from the Maine State House to the Augusta Food Bank.
The farm bureau is inviting the public to watch the parade and participate by coming with canned goods for donation. The donations will be accepted along the parade route.
The farm bureau says Maine has the highest number of farms of the New England states, but it also has the highest number of food-insecure residents in the region.
