LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Veterans Affairs official has assured southwest Louisiana veterans that a clinic under construction in Lake Charles will be open by next summer.

The assurances came at mid-week from Valerie Russell, associate director of the Alexandria VA system.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/2cdoDDC ) that Russell spoke during the first meeting of the Veterans Action Coalition of Southwest Louisiana. She addressed concerns that three weeks of weather-related delays would put the opening off.

The 24,000 square-foot facility will provide primary care, nutrition, pharmacy, women’s health and other services. Russell said the clinic will be “state-of-the-art” like one in Lafayette, set to open in November.
