ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Every dog has its day, and now canines in Alexandria will have their own park.

The city has released plans for Hynson Bark, a dog park projected to open in early 2017 near City Park.

City officials tell The Town Talk (https://townta.lk/2d8rksb) Hynson Bark will be developed on a narrow, 1.5-acre strip of city-owned property.

Community Services Director Daniel Williams said the dog park will be for people as well as for canines, as it can become a chance for activity and to meet with other dog owners.

Bids for construction of the initial phase of the dog park are being sought now and are due in October. Construction should begin in November or December and is expected to take two months or less.

The initial phase is expected to cost about $200,000.
