RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A man has admitted under a plea deal that he shot into a Long Island home in 2008, killing another man.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2czW7Nt ) Gabriel Hubbard hesitated twice on Monday when asked if he was pleading guilty to manslaughter because he killed Jaquan Jones. He ultimately answered “yes.”
Hubbard had been convicted of murder in 2012. A state Supreme Court justice set aside the verdict, saying prosecutors never informed the defense that investigators questioned the accuracy of a cabdriver’s statement.
Hubbard’s plea deal calls for the 23-year-old to be sentenced to 3 1?3 to 10 years in prison, the maximum as a juvenile offender.
Attorneys say the former Wyandanch (WEYEN’-danch) man, who has been behind bars for nearly 7 years, will likely be freed soon following his sentencing next week.
