PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s top teachers and principals are being honored at one of Providence’s most popular cultural attractions.
The state Department of Education has invited the public to WaterFire on Saturday for its educator recognition ceremony.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo, Board of Education Chair Barbara Cottam and Education Commissioner Ken Wagner plan to present certificates to about 70 educators who received awards and recognition during the previous school year.
The honorees include the state and district teachers of the year, the superintendent of the year and principals of the year, award-winning educators and newly certified teachers.
The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. on the Washington Street Bridge.
Teachers will be participating in a torch procession from the bridge to the basin for the lighting of WaterFire.
