YUKON, Okla. (AP) - The Yukon school board is suing the district’s former food supplier for allegedly overbilling the district by $427,000.
The lawsuit dated Thursday against Sysco Oklahoma LLC asks for compensatory damages of more than $10,000, punitive damages of more than $10,000 and attorney fees.
Yukon Superintendent Jason Simeroth told The Oklahoman that the district paid Sysco $1.3 million for food in 2010-11 and $1.45 million in 2011-12. HE said the district is still compiling billing records for two other years.
Sysco issued a statement to KWTV saying it takes the claims “very seriously,” and disputes the allegations.
Simeroth said the alleged overcharges were found by a private contractor that will be paid a portion of any money recovered and that attorneys are working on a contingency fee, so the district pays only if money is recovered.
