SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Prosecutors say police were justified in shooting and wounding an armed suspect in a Utah mother’s shooting death.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said in a statement Tuesday that 26-year-old Jason Alan Black was starting to raise the gun toward officers when two fired their weapons.
The investigators were serving a search warrant at the home of Black’s father when officers found him.
Black was critically wounded but recovered from his injuries and is now facing aggravated murder and other charges in the death of 24-year-old Natalia Casagrande.
Police say Black killed her after going to her home to buy marijuana. Prosecutors say he also tried to strangle her 5-year-old daughter.
Black’s lawyer did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
