OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Two former Oklahoma County detention officers accused of stealing money from jail inmates have been charged with embezzlement.
The Oklahoman reports (https://bit.ly/2d4zmn2 ) 21-year-old Montana Mullins of Duncan and 22-year-old Chauncy Apple of Lawton were charged on Sept. 14. Mullins is charged with misdemeanor embezzlement and Apple with felony embezzlement.
A sheriff’s office affidavit accuses Mullins of taking $300 from one inmate. It says Apple allegedly took a total of $827 from three inmates.
Both were hired on Feb. 1 and resigned in May. Jail officials say they were released earlier this month on $2,000 bond each.
Online District Court records indicate a hearing is scheduled for Mullins Oct. 20 and that Apple is due in court Nov. 8. The records do not indicate if they are represented by an attorney.
