ST. LOUIS (AP) - Police say a man died in a gunfight with police in north St. Louis.

Chief Sam Dotson says two officers tried to pull the man over Friday night because he was driving erratically. When the man stopped, he got out of the car and ran.

The chief says the man fired one shot at an officer before his gun jammed. The officer fired several shots, killing the man, who has not been identified.

Dotson says the man was a convicted felon wanted for parole violations and with several felony warrants.

No officers were injured in the confrontation.

Dotson says the officer, a five-year veteran of the force, was placed on administrative leave, which is routine in fatal shootings.
