WAXHAW, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Union County deputy responding to a burglary report at a chief deputy’s home crashed his cruiser.

Investigators told media outlets that Chief Deputy Todd Elmore’s wife was in their Waxhaw home when the burglar broke in Friday afternoon.

Deputies say a gun was stolen, but no one in the home was injured.

Authorities say the deputy who crashed responding to the burglary lost control of his car in the rain. He suffered minor injuries.
