HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - Harrisonburg officials have confirmed that about 20 voter applications in the swing state of Virginia were recently sent in under the names of dead people.

Harrisonburg Registrar Debbie Logan told news outlets Thursday that investigators have found 18 to 20 potentially fraudulent registrations.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/2dwFsQ9 ) reports the applications were turned in by a voter registration group called HarrisonburgVOTES. The group could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The FBI and local police are investigating the case. No charges have been filed.

Republicans state lawmakers, who have supported tighter voter ID laws, have highlighted the investigation, calling it proof of voter fraud.

House Minority Leader David J. Toscano says it was not proof of voter fraud because no one had actually managed to cast a phony vote.
