HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A state judge has revoked bond for a Hilton Head Island man charged with a second DUI after being cited for driving under the influence in a fatal hit-and-turn last month.

Local news outlets report that 64-year-old Richard Alford was arrested Wednesday afternoon on the resort island.

At the time, Alford was out on $50,000 bond on charges of charges of felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death. The charges stemmed from the August hit-and-run death of 66-year-old bicyclist Jeff Garske.

Prosecutors told a judge Thursday that Alford is a danger to the community and the arrest violated his earlier bond.

Alford’s attorney argued his client needs medical treatment and was not able to get into a rehabilitation facility following the earlier arrest.
