CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Horry County’s new police chief says he will be passionate and committed as he works for the department that has been rocked by the indictments of four former officers.
News outlets report that Joseph Hill took the oath of office on Friday.
The state grand jury indicted four former department officers in mid-September alleging they coerced women into sex or ignored nearly 100 cases they were supposed to be investigating. Several women have sued the department.
Hill said during the swearing-in ceremony in Conway that he will work to be ethical, honest, committed, and compassionate in what he does for the department’s officers and citizens of the county.
Former Police Chief Saundra Rhodes retired back in May.
