ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria police said they canvassed a neighborhood for witnesses after a female lifeguard was raped at a condominium complex’s swimming pool on Saturday.

The Washington Post reported Sunday that a man sexually assaulted the 24-year-old woman at gunpoint about 2 p.m. Saturday. The woman then reported the attack to police.

Police said no one else was at the pool during the attack, possibly because of the cooler weather.

Police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said the crime was unusual because it involved a stranger and occurred in the middle of the day in a public place. Ms. Nosal said police may work with the woman to create a composite sketch of her attacker. Authorities planned to check surveillance cameras for any video of the assault.
