NEW YORK (AP) - A former civil rights lawyer who represented the downtrodden and dastardly for decades is still speaking out after being released early from prison because she was expected to die of cancer.
Lynne Stewart is as radical as ever at age 76.
She even insisted in an interview with The Associated Press that people who kill police officers might be indirectly improving society.
Stewart was released from federal prison over two years ago after doctors said she was likely to be dead within 18 months.
She had been jailed for helping a convicted terrorist communicate with his followers.
Former federal prosecutor Annemarie McAvoy says Stewart’s support of those who kill officers is sad and shows that jail time did not rehabilitate Stewart’s thought process.
