MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is holding public hearings this month to gather input about changes to the otter and muskrat trapping regulations.

The department received a petition to extend the otter trapping season by a month to align with the beaver trapping season. The petition would also extend the window of time a muskrat trap would need to be checked to a three days.

The petition passed the first vote of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board, but they will take two more votes and continue to receive public comment.

The hearings will be held on April 3 at Lyndon State College, April 4 at the Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton and April 13 at the St. Albans Town Education center. All hearings start at 6:30 p.m.
