EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - Traffic is backed up for miles at the scene of a police investigation that has closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Los Angeles County.

The California Highway Patrol says the closure Tuesday in El Monte is due to an investigation related to a possible homicide.

CHP Officer Peter Nicholson says a tow truck driver stopped to check out a sedan parked along a shoulder and found a woman dead inside. Authorities covered the car’s windshield with a tarp as officers searched for possible evidence.

Eastbound traffic is being diverted onto local roads and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Nicholson says lanes are expected to reopen around 11 a.m.
