GLOUCESTER POINT, Va. (AP) - Officials say a man is dead after a boat fire at a Gloucester County marina.
Media outlets say the fire broke out at Jordan Marina in Gloucester Point on Monday night. The Gloucester County Sheriff’s office says callers reported an explosion and fire.
Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue spokesman Robert Parlett says crews found a 56-foot retired shrimp boat fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at the marina on Sarah’s Creek. A man’s body was found on the boat. His identity has not yet been released.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The sheriff’s office says the refueling of an on-board generator may be the main cause, but a large amount of flammable material was also found around “incendiary devices.”
