Your shoes are full of diarrhea-causing bacteria, and tracking the bugs through the house can put you at a high risk for contamination, the Daily Mail reports.

Researchers at the University of Houston tested thousands of shoe soles for C. Diff, an intestinal bacteria that causes diarrhea, and over 25 percent of the samples were contaminated.

Touching an infected source can easily transfer the bacteria and lead to discomfort on the toilet.

In its most extreme form, C. Diff can cause life-threatening inflammation of the colon, according to the Mayo Clinic.
