LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - Laurel police have arrested a woman who they say severely beat her own mother.

Police say they responded Friday to Cook Avenue Apartments in reference to a call about a woman yelling for help. When they arrived, they found a woman in her late 60s, severely beaten at the hands of her daughter, Melissa Adams.

WDAM-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2pr0XCI ) Adams was at the scene, covered in her mother’s blood.

She’s being held on a charge of aggravated domestic assault. Bond was set Monday at $75,000. Jail records do not indicate whether she’s represented by an attorney.

The victim is listed in stable condition at Forrest General Hospital, where police say she’s being treated for a “significant head injury.”
